Communicating with the crew onboard SAGA these past number of weeks they have been away, has not been an easy task. The signal in the middle of the Atlantic is unreliable, the wind has caused disturbances, as well as the crew have been occupied by their rowing. While they are closing in their destination, these factors are still at play.
They are experiencing strong side winds at the moment, but they expect to follow the schedule the same, despite these weather conditions. Our most recent communication session with the crew was unfortunately cut short. The high winds made it difficult to hear the voices onboard SAGA, and the call was abruptly ended due to bad signal.
The crew say, that they have employed the wrong strategy when it comes to side winds, as these side winds have been quite unpleasant lately. Constantly facing high speed winds, that make it difficult to maintain their course.
The crew has rowed 4000 nautical miles, and only approximately 360 nautical miles remain on their journey, before they reach their destination. They are expecting to reach their destination on Saturday, if everything goes according to plan.
“The final countdown has commenced!” says Jákup Jacobsen on the phone, and added that the mood onboard SAGA is good, and the crew are excited, even though it is tough at the moment.
It is not only the crew, who are excited, as all of us who follow their journey are excited as well. Their journey is a heroic undertaking, an extraordinary feat, which demands the utmost of brave men. Everyone reading this, we call upon you to show the crew onboard SAGA, that they have supporters from around the world, who are cheering for them, as they initiate their final sprint!
